Also visit the website for NC and SC Cowboy Clubs at www.carolinacowboys.us    Here you will find a list of the clubs in NC and SC, when they shoot and contacts.  There is also the Cowboy Wire that post information about upcoming events, general discussions, scores, etc.

Cowboy action shooting is designed with Safety as the most important aspect since we do use live ammunition fired at steel targets.  Second to safety is that of having fun with a great bunch of people.  You don’t have to be expert in the field of shooting to enjoy the sport.  Targets are big and up close designed to be easy to engage with instant feed back from the clang of a hit.  This sport is designed to have fun without having to be an expert shot.  While some become quite competitive, most are here just because we like to shoot.

It is the Spirit of the Game.  Dress does require a cowboy hat, jeans and boots as a minimum although many go much further with full cowboy style dress, fancy holsters, hats and colorful outfits.  Firearms require two single action revolvers, a lever action rifle in a pistol caliber and a double barrel shotgun or 97 pump shotgun.  More details about type of dress and firearms can be found at SASS | The Single Action Shooting Society – Handbooks & Rules.

Don’t have everything you need to join in?  Come out and visit anyway.  Visitors are always welcome and we will make accommodations to have you join in until you get things going.  We’re also planning a special day for beginners about once a quarter at the Sure Shot Range.  Visit this website to see times for these events.

See just who we are at home on the ranges.

Neuse River Regulators Guidelines for those wishing to shoot “ Josey Wales “

A JW shooter may use 4 pistols plus a shotgun or may use 5 pistols.

2 of the pistols shall be carried in holsters and the rest staged at the proper positions.

Pistols staged on a horizontal flat surface shall be staged with the entire pistol on the staging surface.

The RO or other posse member may assist in staging the extra pistols and in transporting them to the unloading area.

The pistol used for shotgun targets may be loaded with 5 rounds. JW shooter will declare to the TO  how manny rounds are loaded in the shotgun pistol.  If additional rounds are needed in the shotgun pistol the JW shooter can load them on the line as needed.  If all 4 targets fall with 4 shots and 5 rounds were loaded, then the 5th shot shall be “dumped” in the area of the shotgun targets.  JW shooter’s shotgun string of the stage will only be complete when all live rounds in the shotgun pistol have been fired.  If any targets remain up, the shooter has the option to reload on the clock or to take a miss for each target still up.

Target placement shall be the same for JW shooters as it is for those shooting with two pistols , a rifle and a shotgun.

All safety rules shall apply to this category.
